"Always A Pathfinder"

Mountain Hiking Trip

Pawtuckaway's 5,500 acres offer a variety of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. Trails wind through an oak and hemlock forest on what used to be pasture land bounded by stone walls. A hike to South Peak leads to the Pawtuckaway fire tower.

Date: Sunday, May 18, 2008.

Time: Noon

Where: Pawtuckaway State Park (state website or NH State Parks)

What: We will scale the South Mountain to the fire tower. We will meet at the Visitors Center parking lot at noon. This is a pretty easy hike and the trails are generally well marked. One possible route for us to take up to the Fire Tower is about 2 miles long. If this seems like too much, I'm sure we can find a shorter way up. In any case, the summit is only about 900 feet up and the view is spectacular especially from the Fire Tower!

The Mohicans will bring bottled water and juice as well as some snack type stuff. You should bring a small backpack with your lunch and any extra things that you think you might need. You might want to bring some water yourself in case you don't hook up with the rest of the nation.

Watch the weather and dress appropriately!! While this isn't a "technical" hike, a pair of hiking boots won't hurt! Good sneakers will work OK too! As this is a Nation Event, the whole family is welcome to attend, share in the fun and get some exercise!

Directions: From I-93: Take Route 101 east to Exit 5 and follow signs to Pawtuckaway State Park and meet at the Visitors Center.
