Fall Is For Camping
Indian_Pathfinders_Playing_SoccerIt is tradition for the Pathfinders to start their season off with a fall campout. The 2009 / 2010 season kept that tradition alive. On an extremely cold Friday, September 25th, Pathfinder members started to arrive on Camp Winaukee to camp, fish, play field games and enjoy time with their daughter(s).
Friday night, the temperature dropped to the mid 30's during the night. Many members packed plenty of warm clothes, blankets and space heaters to keep themselves warm. A campfire was started early for everyone to keep warm and enjoy s-mores.
Early Saturday morning was time for everyone to relax and enjoy spending time with their daughters. Many members took that time to spend by the lake either fishing, kayaking, and even a few daughters braved the conditions and went swimming.
In the afternoon, children of all ages gathered at the soccer fields to enjoy a game of father vs. daughter soccer. The daughters clearly had an advantage because they outnumbered the fathers, even if the fathers are twice their size. The game was tough for both teams. Scores were kept event until the end when the daughters tapped in the winning goal.
After soccer, the group was broken into two teams for a spirited game of capture the flag. Each team secretly hid their flag so their opponents could not find it. After about 30 minutes of play and many members getting caught by opposing teams, each team found the opposing flag within seconds of each other. It was a race to the finish but in the end, the Nation Chief, Dave Anstey, found the flag of his opposing team and carried it proudly to victory.
Once a year, the Pathfinders hold their induction ceremony for new members.  The induction ceremony took place on Saturday night. New members were brought to the induction ceremony in procession and gathered around the fire pit to listen the voices of the north, east, west and south. The voices gave guidance to both fathers & daughters. For the first time ever, there was a slight interruption in the induction ceremony, thanks to the resident camp dog, Gunner. Gunner decided that he wanted to be a Pathfinder member and surprised everyone by trying to jump over the unlit fire pit. Gunner's timing was perfect since one minute later the fire would have been lit by the flaming arrow.Indian_Pathfinders_Birthday_Cake
After the ceremony, members enjoyed another round of s-mores and then headed back to the Abenaki cabin for a birthday celebration for Sophia Fonseca, Jillian Fitzgibbons and Mackenzie Bodkin.

We hope everyone enjoyed this years fall campout and we are looking forward to seeing all members at upcoming events.
